Antonio Spadaro S.I., Etica «hacker» e visione cristiana, in La Civiltà Cattolica 2011 I 536-549

Ormai è convinzione comune che gli hacker siano sabotatori, se non veri e propri criminali informatici. Parlare di etica hacker può allora suonare persino ironico. L’articolo cerca di fare chiarezza sulla loro storia, la loro vera identità e la loro «filosofia», distinguendoli chiaramente dai cracker, operatori di illegalità. Indagando i modelli di vita e di ricerca intellettuale hacker, fondati sulla creatività e la condivisione, se ne discute la compatibilità con una visione cristiana della vita. Senza paragonare indebitamente comunità hacker e comunità cristiana, si conclude come i cristiani e gli hacker oggi, in un mondo votato alla logica del profitto, hanno comunque molto da darsi, come dimostra del resto anche l’esperienza degli hacker che fanno della loro fede un impulso del loro lavoro creativo.

Antonio Spadaro S.I., «Hacker» Ethics and Christian Vision – It is now a common belief that hackers are saboteurs, if not real IT criminals. Speaking of hacking and ethics can therefore appear somewhat contradictory. This article attempts to shed light on their history, their true identity and their «philosophy», clearly distinguishing them from the cracker who are illegal operators. Investigating the hacker’s way of life and intellectual pursuits, based on creativity and sharing, this article discusses their compatibility with a Christian vision of life. Without unduly comparing the hacker and Christian communities, the article concludes that Christians and hackers today, in a world devoted to the logic of profit, have however much to give each other, as is demonstrated by the experience of hackers who make their faith a boost to their creative work.
